Girls' Day 14.04.2011

Day of action for schoolgirls – experience “male professions“at first hand!

At April 14th this year it was once again time for schoolgirls to take a look into the companies.

The goal is to provide the schoolgirls the opportunity to learn a bit more about working world and to offer some impressions of classical technic and scientific “male professions”.

At Lauffenmühle these are for example following professions:

  • Machine and plant operator
    spinning / weaving / finishing (f/m)

  • Textile production engineer
    spinning / weaving (f/m)

  • Textile product finisher
    finishing (f/m)

  • Textile laboratory technician (f/m)

  • Industrial clerk  (f/m)

The motivation and interest of the schoolgirls should be increased for these professions as well as their timidity towards technology should be reduced. The objective is to support the schoolgirls in their later professional orientation and to encourage them to enter also technical professions after their school education.

This year, the interest of schoolgirls from classes
five to seven was again very high. What pleased
us too was that we receive applications
also from boys, who have been
interested in these professions and
wanted to have a look into the
above-mentioned professions during that day…

After a welcome greeting by the human resources manager the pupils were taken into the respective departments. They were given the opportunity to gain insight into the work of production (spinning, weaving and also of the laboratory) and they were allowed to support our colleagues actively in their daily work.

Lauffenmühle is one of the few fully integrated textile manufacturers (with spinning, weaving and finishing) in Germany, with more than 175 years of experience in textile manufacturing. We are one of the leaders in development and production of innovative fabrics which offer multiple functions for the wearer - related to the particular area of application. The fabrics of Lauffenmühle have already been adopted - after further processing making-up by customers of Lauffenmühle - by following companies (amongst others):

Bmw und Audi Racing Teams, Sto AG, Novartis, Alstom, Air Berlin, Rewe, Disneyland, Real, Douglas and many more…

Our female trainees who already work in „typical male professions“ have anytime been available for the curious pupils to primarily reduce their inhibitions and also to act as models and of course to answer all the questions.

So also during this year’s girls day the schoolgirls took part with a lot of enthusiasm and fun.

General supplementary information concerning the Girls Day:

The Girls Day is the largest professional orientation project for schoolgirls. Companies and organizations open especially those areas in which women are underrepresented for the scholars. The schoolgirls experience e.g. in laboratories, factories and work halls how interesting and exiting such a type of work can be.
